About the hotel

Set in Tokyo's historic Shiba district in Minato, Shiba Park Hotel occupies a relatively quiet position between Tokyo Tower, Zojoji Temple and the business districts surrounding Hamamatsucho. Onarimon Station is only two minutes away on foot, while Daimon and Hamamatsucho provide broader connections across the capital, making the hotel particularly convenient without placing it directly inside one of Tokyo's busiest commercial districts.

The hotel traces its history to 1948, when it began operating as a government-managed hotel for foreign trade delegations before becoming privately operated the following year. After more than seven decades in Shiba, a complete renovation between 2020 and 2023 repositioned the property around a new identity as a library hotel, connecting its longstanding hospitality tradition with the history and culture of the surrounding neighbourhood.

Across 198 guestrooms, accommodation ranges from Standard and Superior rooms to Deluxe categories and a 44 m² Junior Suite. The renovated interiors combine contemporary lines with understated Japanese references, while sustainable amenities, natural textures and restrained colours create a calmer atmosphere than the city's more design-driven hotels. All guestrooms are non-smoking, and larger categories accommodate couples, families and longer stays with additional living space.

Books are the property's defining feature. Approximately 2,000 titles curated by Ginza Tsutaya Books are distributed between the Library Lounge, seven-metre central bookshelves, second-floor Book & Culture foyer and themed reading corners across the upper floors. Japanese culture, architecture, photography, fashion and art shape the collection, while tea ceremonies, artisan exhibitions, guided walks and audio experiences turn the library concept into an active part of the stay.

Today, Shiba Park Hotel is particularly well suited to couples, families, readers and culturally curious travellers who want a quieter base within central Tokyo. Its appeal lies less in resort-style facilities and more in the combination of history, Japanese cultural programming, thoughtful dining and unusually generous communal spaces devoted to books, all within walking distance of Tokyo Tower and some of Minato's most important historic sites.

Creator experience

Julia Hamlin

“Shiba Park Hotel Tokyo offered a calm and characterful escape from the energy of the city. I loved the hotel’s literary atmosphere, with books and thoughtful design creating a warm sense of discovery throughout the property. Its peaceful setting made returning after a day exploring Tokyo especially relaxing, while the welcoming hospitality and distinctive character made the experience feel personal, authentic, and uniquely connected to Japanese culture.”
