Torre del Nera
★★★★☆
Scattered Hotel
Umbria, Italy
A unique scattered hotel where medieval homes, authentic Umbrian charm, and luxury wellness create an unforgettable village escape.
About the hotel
Nestled within the medieval village of Scheggino in the heart of Umbria's Valnerina Valley, Torre del Nera offers an immersive stay surrounded by rolling hills, the Nera River, and centuries of Italian history. Ideally located for exploring central Umbria, the hotel is just 15 minutes from Spoleto, while Foligno, Montefalco, Todi, and the spectacular Marmore Falls are all within easy reach, making it an excellent base for discovering the region's rich blend of history, nature, and gastronomy.
Dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries, the original stone buildings have been carefully restored and transformed into the hotel that opened in 2021. Built around the concept of an Albergo Diffuso (Scattered Hotel), Torre del Nera occupies a collection of beautifully restored historic buildings spread throughout part of the medieval village, while the remainder continues to be home to local residents. Traditional Umbrian architecture blends seamlessly with contemporary comforts, preserving the authentic character of Scheggino while offering a refined hospitality experience.
The property features 28 accommodation units (12 rooms and 16 suites), together with the award-winning Nahar SPA, offering an indoor wellness pool, Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, emotional showers, salt room, and peaceful relaxation areas. Guests can also enjoy Ristorante del Cavaliere, where seasonal Umbrian cuisine showcases locally sourced ingredients, regional wines, truffles, and olive oil. The hotel has even developed its own skincare collection inspired by the Valnerina, using ingredients such as saffron from Cascia, olive leaves, and the Three Roses, honouring Saint Rita and the region's rich heritage.
What truly distinguishes Torre del Nera is its authentic Albergo Diffuso concept. Rather than staying in a single hotel building, guests become part of the rhythm of a living medieval village, enjoying personalised service, wellness facilities, and authentic local traditions. Beyond the hotel, optional excursions such as winery visits, olive oil tastings, guided truffle hunting, hiking, cycling, rafting on the Nera River, and cultural tours to nearby historic towns allow visitors to discover the best of the surrounding Umbrian countryside.
Today, Torre del Nera is ideal for couples, wellness travellers, food lovers, history enthusiasts, and anyone seeking an authentic escape in one of Italy's most enchanting medieval villages.

Creator experience
“What surprised me most about Torre del Nera was the Nahar Spa. I wasn't expecting such a spacious, modern and beautifully designed wellness area, and it quickly became my favourite part of the stay. I also loved the private winery visit with wine and olive oil tasting, which offered a genuine introduction to the traditions of the Valnerina. Sleeping in an albergo diffuso offers a unique opportunity to experience the authentic atmosphere of a medieval village without giving up the comforts of an hotel.”
