Luxury Resort

Oleggio Castello, Italy

A Neo-Gothic Lake Maggiore estate with 45 rooms, a 24-hectare park, seasonal pool, Piedmontese dining, and centuries of family history.

About the hotel

Set in the hills above Lake Maggiore, Castello Dal Pozzo occupies a 24-hectare historic estate in the village of Oleggio Castello, around five minutes by car from Arona and the lakeshore. Rather than a single building, the property extends across the Neo-Gothic Castle, the 18th-century Visconti Palazzo, the former Stables, extensive gardens, and parkland, giving the resort the character of a private country estate.

Hospitality here remains closely tied to the Dal Pozzo d'Annone family, who have cared for the estate for more than six generations. The property first opened a small number of rooms in 2006 before becoming a five-star hotel in 2010, and it continues to be managed by members of the family today. That continuity gives the experience a more personal identity than one might expect from a historic resort of this scale.

The architecture carries several centuries of history. Medieval Visconti origins were followed by later transformations before Marquis Claudio Dal Pozzo d'Annone commissioned British architect Richard Popwell Pullan to remodel the estate in the Gothic Revival style during the 19th century. Towers, pointed arches, stained glass, frescoes and English-influenced gardens remain central to its appearance, while guestrooms incorporate period furniture, family artworks, parquet flooring and marble bathrooms alongside contemporary comforts.

Life within the estate extends well beyond its historic interiors. The seasonal outdoor pool sits within the park, while Le Fief provides the property's principal gastronomic restaurant and Dan Garden Lounge and Folia Life introduce more informal seasonal dining. Experiences range from sommelier-led wine tastings and cooking classes to private lake cruises, guided castle visits, yoga, forest bathing, e-bike routes and excursions around the wider Lake Maggiore region.

Today, Castello Dal Pozzo is particularly well suited to couples, families, history and architecture enthusiasts, golfers, and travellers using the estate as a base for Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta. Its defining quality is the unusual combination of family history, substantial private parkland and resort facilities, while remaining close enough to Arona for excursions along the lake.

Creator experience

Mélissa Durand

“Staying at Castello Dal Pozzo felt like stepping into another era, surrounded by the elegance of a Neo-Gothic castle and the peaceful landscapes of Lake Maggiore. I loved wandering through the historic park and discovering how naturally the property's heritage blended with modern comfort. From quiet moments overlooking the gardens to relaxing by the panoramic pool, the entire experience felt timeless, romantic, and completely removed from everyday life.”
