About the hotel

Hidden among the forested shores of Lake Atitlán in Pasajcap, just outside San Marcos La Laguna, Tierra de la Aurora occupies an unusually private position between the water and the surrounding mountains. The retreat looks directly across the lake towards its volcanic landscape, with a private dock providing immediate access to the water while separating the property from the busier rhythm of the village.

The concept is deliberately simple: a small lakefront retreat designed around silence, nature and privacy. Rather than operating as a conventional resort, Aurora places the landscape at the centre of the stay, encouraging guests to swim, paddle, walk, rest and experience Lake Atitlán at a slower pace. Its location near an ancient Maya altar on the hill known as Vulture Temple also connects the property to the cultural landscape surrounding San Marcos.

Accommodation is limited to three independent lakefront cabins, each designed for two guests and oriented towards the water. Large windows bring the volcanoes and changing light directly into the interiors, while warm timber, natural textures, handcrafted details and deep blue-green bathroom tiles establish a contemporary but grounded aesthetic. Each cabin includes a private balcony or patio, seating and dining areas, a kitchenette and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower.

Life at Aurora unfolds largely outdoors. A private dock provides access for swimming and paddleboarding, while the surrounding landscape opens onto lakeside walks, hiking routes, waterfalls and mountain scenery. Bodywork massage treatments can be arranged at the retreat, giving the wellness offering a deliberately intimate character rather than relying on a conventional spa complex. Tierra De La Auror 2

Today, Tierra de la Aurora is particularly well suited to couples and solo travellers seeking privacy, nature and a quieter interpretation of Lake Atitlán. Its three-cabin scale, adults-only approach and boat-access setting make it less appropriate for travellers wanting extensive hotel facilities, but particularly compelling for those who value seclusion, dramatic scenery and direct contact with the lake.

Creator experience

“Tierra de la Aurora gave me the chance to truly slow down and appreciate the simplest moments. My favourite part was our private terrace, where mornings began with breakfast surrounded by the sounds of nature, watching squirrels climb through the trees and taking in the peaceful landscape. Whether enjoying breakfast or sitting outside with a book, those quiet, unhurried moments made the stay feel wonderfully restorative and deeply connected to nature.”
