About the hotel

Set within a private nature reserve outside Flores in Guatemala's Petén region, Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel unfolds between tropical forest and the waters of Quexil Lagoon. The property occupies more than 300 acres and feels deliberately removed from the city, despite being only around ten minutes from Mundo Maya International Airport. Five lagoons, protected vegetation, wildlife and direct access to the surrounding landscape give the hotel the character of a secluded jungle retreat rather than a conventional resort.

The concept grew from owner Edgar Castillo Sinibaldi's long connection with Petén, which began when he first visited the region in 1950. His intention was to create hospitality within the forest while preserving its natural setting, establishing a reserve where local flora and rescued wildlife could be protected. That philosophy remains central to the property today, with the buildings integrated into the vegetation rather than dominating it and the hotel positioned as a base for experiencing both the natural environment and the Maya heritage of northern Guatemala.

Accommodation is limited to 20 suites arranged around the lagoons and forest. Twelve Waterfront Suites sit beside Quexil Lagoon, while four Master Suites occupy elevated positions among the trees and four larger Waterfront Master Suites extend the experience closer to the water. Timber interiors, expansive windows, private terraces, cascade showers and individual Jacuzzis establish a strong relationship with the landscape, with many suites positioned directly over or beside the water and designed more like independent jungle bungalows than conventional hotel rooms.

Life at Las Lagunas revolves around nature, food and exploration. Shultun Restaurant overlooks the lagoon and combines Guatemalan ingredients with international cooking, with particular attention to the quality and presentation of each dish. The infinity pool also faces the water, while the wellness area includes a spa pool, Jacuzzi, wet and dry saunas, a gym and individual or couples' massages. One of the property's most distinctive experiences is the included boat trip to Monkey Island, offering guests an easy way to explore another part of the reserve and observe the monkeys that live there. A dedicated departure lounge is also available for guests with later flights, allowing them to continue using the hotel's facilities before leaving for the airport.

Las Lagunas also maintains an archaeological museum and operates private excursions throughout Petén, including Tikal, Yaxhá, Uaxactún, Ceibal and more remote natural sites. This makes the property especially practical for travellers who want to combine archaeological exploration with several quieter days immersed in nature. Today, Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel is particularly well suited to couples, families, archaeology enthusiasts and nature-focused travellers looking for the comfort, elegance and service of a five-star hotel without losing the feeling of being deeply connected to the surrounding jungle.

Creator experience

“Las Lagunas offered the rare feeling of being completely immersed in nature without sacrificing comfort or elegance. I loved the peaceful surroundings and refined atmosphere, but it was the genuine care of the team that made us feel truly welcomed. Dining was another highlight, with beautifully presented dishes, while our boat trip to Monkey Island became one of my favourite moments. That balance of nature, thoughtful hospitality, and five-star comfort made the experience particularly memorable.”
