About the hotel

Set within the historic Werribee Park estate, approximately 35 kilometres southwest of central Melbourne, Lancemore Mansion Hotel Werribee Park occupies a peaceful setting surrounded by formal gardens, mature trees and open parkland. The property sits beside the magnificent nineteenth-century Werribee Park Mansion, with landscaped grounds extending towards the Werribee River. Its position provides a distinctly different experience from Melbourne's urban hotels, offering the atmosphere of a country estate while remaining accessible from the city. The neighbouring Victoria State Rose Garden, Shadowfax Winery and Werribee Open Range Zoo add to the area's appeal.

The estate's history begins with Scottish pastoralists Thomas and Andrew Chirnside, who commissioned Werribee Park Mansion between 1874 and 1877 as a grand Italianate residence. In 1923, the property entered a different chapter when it became St Joseph's Seminary, a religious institution that occupied the estate for several decades. Following the preservation and redevelopment of the historic buildings, the former seminary was transformed into a luxury hotel in 2000. Today, Lancemore maintains this architectural legacy while introducing contemporary hospitality, allowing guests to experience the estate's layered history through its accommodation, gardens and public spaces.

The hotel comprises 91 guestrooms and suites, combining heritage architecture with contemporary interiors designed to complement the property's historic character. Heritage Rooms occupy the former seminary, preserving their original proportions while introducing modern comforts and understated furnishings. Superior Rooms feature warmer textures, generous bathrooms and views towards the surrounding parkland, while Junior Suites provide additional space, king-size beds and private balconies overlooking the estate. Selected suites also include spa baths, and two-bedroom family accommodation provides additional flexibility. The hotel's architectural transformation was undertaken by Wood Marsh, creating a considered contrast between the original buildings and their contemporary additions.

Life at the hotel centres on its gardens, gastronomy and wellness facilities. Joseph's Restaurant overlooks the estate's formal gardens and serves contemporary Australian cuisine influenced by European traditions, with menus highlighting seasonal ingredients and regional produce. L.M. Spa offers massage treatments, facials, body rituals and Hammam experiences, complemented by a 17-metre heated indoor swimming pool, steam room and fitness centre. Guests can also enjoy weekend high tea, relax beside the fireplace in the Library or spend an afternoon in the traditional Snooker Room. The surrounding parkland provides opportunities for leisurely walks and cultural exploration.

Lancemore Mansion Hotel Werribee Park is particularly well suited to couples, wellness travellers, heritage enthusiasts and visitors seeking a peaceful escape from Melbourne's city centre. Its historic setting and extensive event facilities also make it a destination for weddings, private celebrations and corporate retreats. Families benefit from larger accommodation options and convenient access to Werribee Open Range Zoo, while wine enthusiasts can explore nearby Shadowfax Winery. The combination of nineteenth-century architecture, landscaped gardens, contemporary accommodation and dedicated wellness facilities creates a distinctive estate experience that balances history, relaxation and regional discovery.
