QT Queenstown

Boutique Hotel
Queenstown, New Zealand
A design-led lakeside retreat with bold alpine interiors, Remarkables views, rooftop dining, and a vibrant après-ski atmosphere.
About the hotel
Overlooking the shores of Lake Wakatipu, QT Queenstown occupies a distinctive position between the water and the dramatic peaks of the Southern Alps. Situated on Lake Esplanade, the hotel enjoys sweeping views towards the Remarkables mountain range while remaining within walking distance of Queenstown's lively town centre. The surrounding landscape changes character throughout the seasons, from snow-covered mountains in winter to green hillsides and clear blue waters in summer. Its lakeside setting provides a quieter atmosphere than the central entertainment district, without separating guests from the restaurants, waterfront activities and outdoor adventures that define Queenstown.
Opened in December 2017, QT Queenstown introduced the Australian-born QT Hotels & Resorts brand's distinctive design philosophy to New Zealand's adventure capital. The property was conceived as a contemporary interpretation of alpine hospitality, combining playful interiors, curated artwork and a relaxed approach to luxury. In 2026, the hotel entered a significant new chapter through the redevelopment of the neighbouring Rydges Lakeside Queenstown property, gradually integrating additional accommodation and facilities into the QT experience. The transformation is scheduled to continue through mid-2027, ultimately creating a larger waterfront destination while retaining the brand's creative identity.
The hotel currently advertises 130 designer rooms and suites, combining contemporary comfort with an expressive visual identity. Original interiors by Nic Graham, with styling by Anna Roberts and graphics by Fabio Ongarato, introduced a distinctive combination of timber, stone, patterned fabrics, sculptural furnishings and locally inspired decorative details. Accommodation categories range from QT King and Deluxe Rooms to spacious lake-view suites overlooking the Remarkables. Selected rooms feature private terraces or Juliet balconies, while premium suites offer separate living spaces and freestanding bathtubs. Floor-to-ceiling windows emphasise the surrounding landscape, connecting the interiors with Queenstown's dramatic natural setting.
Gastronomy and social spaces form an important part of the hotel's character. Bazaar offers an international marketplace-style breakfast overlooking Lake Wakatipu, with open cooking stations and an emphasis on regional produce. Notch, the hotel's contemporary sixth-floor restaurant, focuses on seasonal South Island ingredients prepared with fire-driven cooking techniques, while Rooftop at QT provides an atmospheric setting for cocktails, local wines and relaxed afternoon dining. Additional facilities include a ski storage room, event spaces and concierge assistance with regional activities. An outdoor swimming pool is also listed in the property's published facilities, although access should be confirmed during the ongoing redevelopment.
QT Queenstown is particularly well suited to couples, design-conscious travellers, food enthusiasts and visitors seeking a stylish base for exploring the Southern Lakes region. Its proximity to the town centre makes restaurants, lake cruises and cultural attractions easily accessible, while nearby mountain landscapes provide opportunities for skiing, hiking and adventure activities. Families can choose larger accommodation categories, and dog-friendly rooms allow guests to travel with their pets. The hotel's combination of contemporary design, mountain scenery, distinctive dining and convenient location offers an appealing alternative to Queenstown's more traditional alpine lodges and larger resort properties.
